Located on La Croix Desille Street, La Providence High School is a multifaceted educational institution comprising three main components: a post-baccalaureate establishment, a high school, and a sports hall. Designed by ALTA, the building is strategically organized to foster collaboration and create a vibrant learning environment.

Integrated Design Approach

The architectural design revolves around the concept of integration, with the three entities seamlessly connected within a single building. A central atrium, illuminated by a glass roof, serves as the heart of the school, reminiscent of the Institution in Intramuros. This communal space promotes interaction and serves as a focal point for student activities.

Architectural Identity

The design reflects the iconic maritime identity of Malo, with architectural elements inspired by construction techniques and port cranes. Two large beams, reminiscent of port cranes, support the entire structure, while the shed glass roof pays homage to the architectural heritage of the port of Saint-Malo. This blend of functionality and aesthetics creates a distinctive identity for the school.

Functional Layout

The layout of the building is carefully planned to optimize space and functionality. The ground floor houses essential facilities such as the cafeteria, administration offices, and sports rooms, while the upper floors accommodate classrooms and vocational workshops. The atrium serves as a buffer space, regulating the building’s climate and providing natural ventilation.

Sports Facilities

The sports hall, located within the building, offers versatile spaces for various athletic activities. Multi-sport facilities, including basketball and volleyball courts, are located on the first floor, while a weight room and climbing wall are situated on the upper level. The design prioritizes transparency, allowing ample natural light to flood the sports field.

Sustainable Design

Sustainability is at the forefront of the design, with an emphasis on quality materials and energy efficiency. The use of a single color palette and minimalistic design approach highlights natural elements such as light and greenery. Existing trees surrounding the avenue are integrated into the landscape, enhancing the overall aesthetic and creating a harmonious environment.

La Providence High School represents a modern approach to education, blending innovative design with functional efficiency. By creating dynamic spaces that promote collaboration and engagement, the school sets a new standard for educational architecture.
